UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 19 (WSH) –– COP30 entered its critical final phase in Belém with UN climate chief Simon Stiell warning against “tactical delays and stonewalling” as ministers began high-level negotiations. The summit faces mounting pressure to deliver concrete climate action, with Brazil’s Vice-President declaring it’s time to “stop debating goals and start fulfilling them.”

Parallel to the official talks, the People’s Summit mobilized 70,000 protesters in the largest climate justice march of its kind, while civil society groups presented alternative proposals emphasizing just transition and ecological debt. A massive solidarity kitchen served over 300,000 free meals using Amazonian ingredients, highlighting the connection between food sovereignty and climate justice.

With two major decision packages on the table and night sessions expected, negotiators work against time to reach agreements on climate finance, implementation frameworks, and a gender action plan before Friday’s deadline.
