SHANGHAI, August 15 (WSH) —The Shanghai Medical Association has launched China’s first Music and Art Therapy Committee, co-founded by renowned erhu soloist and National Class One Performer Ma Xiaohui and Liu Hao, Director of the Department of Chinese Music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

At the inaugural event, Ma Xiaohui introduced her globally recognized “Erhu Music Therapy Concept” into a medical context for the first time. Through an immersive performance, she guided physicians into a serene “musical prescription” experience, using the erhu’s expressive melodies to facilitate emotional release, relaxation, and inner healing. Ma emphasized that music can serve as a non-pharmacological intervention, fostering emotional resonance and self-recovery for both doctors and patients, extending the reach of medical care into the realm of humanistic healing.

The committee will advance professional development in the field through academic exchanges, continuing education, and international collaboration, contributing to the integration of art and healthcare in building a healthier China.
