LHASA, July 25 (WSH) — On July 25, the “Building a Shared China · Connecting the World” Global Chinese Media Alliance delegation, jointly organized by the All-China Journalists Association and the Publicity Department of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region, visited Tibet Ganlu Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., embarking on a journey to trace the roots of Tibetan medical history.
Tibet, the cradle of Tibetan medicine, has carried the legacy of this ancient healing tradition for centuries. Ganlu Tibetan Medicine, founded in 1696 on Lhasa’s Yaowang Mountain, is celebrated as a “living fossil” of traditional Tibetan medicine. Known for its authentic formulas, carefully sourced ingredients, and meticulous craftsmanship, Ganlu has been synonymous with excellence for over 300 years.
Among its most renowned products, Ganlu Tibetan incense is based on classic medical texts such as the Four Medical Tantras and Ten Thousand Relics. Developed in the 19th century by master physician Qirao Luobu of Lhasa Men-Tsee-Khang (now the Tibet Autonomous Region Tibetan Hospital), the incense is crafted from high-quality natural herbs of the Tibetan Plateau following strict traditional methods.
In 2014, the Tibet Autonomous Region released the official Traditional Tibetan Incense Craft Standard (DB54/T0080-2014), with Ganlu Tibetan Medicine serving as the drafting institution. This underscored the company’s cultural depth and technical mastery in preserving the authority and professionalism of Tibetan medicinal craftsmanship. In 2008, the Tibetan incense-making technique was inscribed on China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, cementing its status as a treasured cultural legacy.
Inside the exhibition hall, ancient Tibetan surgical tools and medicinal artifacts stand as silent witnesses to centuries of medical practice. Despite the passage of time, they still exude a sense of mystery and testify to the relentless efforts of Tibetan healers to safeguard the health of the plateau’s people. Historical displays trace Ganlu’s evolution from the Yaowangshan Medical Benevolence Institute of 1696 to becoming today’s largest and most advanced traditional Tibetan medicine producer in China — a journey built on generations of dedication and perseverance.
Ganlu Tibetan Medicine is more than a company; it is a custodian of Tibetan medical heritage and innovation. The visit underscored not only the unique charm and immense value of Tibetan medicine but also the vast potential of the industry in the era of global wellness. With its unique theoretical system, proven efficacy, and natural, sustainable advantages, Tibetan medicine is poised to shine brightly in the international health arena, making greater contributions to human well-being.During the tour, members of the Global Chinese Media Alliance praised Ganlu Tibetan Medicine for its achievements in preserving and innovating Tibetan medical traditions. They pledged to leverage the wide reach of Chinese-language media to promote Tibetan medicine worldwide and enhance its recognition in global markets.
