Xu Yiwen, originally named Xu Hongwen, is a well-known Chinese ink artist. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1985, and studied under Mr. Li Keran, Mr. Zhou Sicong, Mr. Huang Runhua, and other masters. He is a professor and master’s supervisor at the School of Design and Art of Beijing University of Technology, an edge architecture designer, and currently resides in Canada.

 

 

His artistic pursuit is to “hold on to the path with a pure heart” and reach the state of “purity” through “quietness”.

Xu Yiwen has held 12 academic solo exhibitions in China’s mainland and Hong Kong, Europe, and Japan, and has participated in dozens of international and domestic large-scale exhibitions and themed academic joint exhibitions, including the 2nd Global Ink Art Biennale in 2019 and 2022 (Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre).

In 2014, his picture book “Lotus Pond Moonlight” won the Chinese National Silver Award, and in 2017, he represented China at the Illustration Biennale held in Prague. He collaborated with Mr. Zhou Sicong to publish and distribute the “Album of Chinese Painting Teaching for Freehand and Realistic Characters – Videotape” (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) in Hong Kong.

In 2007, he was the chief designer and on-site exhibition supervisor for the exhibition “Century Keran – Li Keran’s 100th Birthday Commemorative Exhibition” for his mentor Li Keran (National Art Museum of China). In 2005, the National Museum of China published and distributed the “Commemorative Collection Special Issue – Xu Yiwen Painting Art Album”. The China Beijing Post Bureau published and distributed the “Elite Collection of Contemporary Art Pioneer Figures – Xu Yiwen Chinese Painting Works Album”. In 1985, his work “Evening Wind” won the Special Award at the World Youth Art Exhibition, and the Second Prize at the Academy Exhibition of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the same year. His representative architectural design work is “Great Wall East Platform Study.”

His published works include the paper-based “Xu Yiwen’s Painting Collection”, “Xu Yiwen’s Painting Collection Works Collection”, and the picture book “Lotus Pond Moonlight”.
